Open your heart in selfless service

“Work is love made visible.”

(Khalil Gibran)

Yoga, in its true meaning, is not understood as being limited to a practice on the yoga mat. One of the most important paths that are considered to lead to liberation is the path of action, or Karma Yoga.

Karma Yoga is the art of staying at a deeper level of awareness (which you might already have experienced during formal yoga and meditation practice) while being involved in outward action. It also means the detachment from the fruits of action, acting not for our own benefit, but for the benefit of others.

At Suryamandala Yoga, we give you the opportunity to stay with us for a longer period, receiving the benefits of a deeper immersion in a yogic lifestyle and learning to integrate spirituality in actions of daily life.

Becoming a volunteer involves a commitment to be available for the tasks you agree to accomplish. This commitment should come from a heartfelt wish to serve, so that work can be done with joy, not out of obligation.

As a Karma Yogi, you can expect to work in one or several areas, according to your skills, like cooking, cleaning, gardening, childcare, site maintenance, building, driving etc. We expect you to be available for service for around 25 hours per week.

While we don’t wish for our relationship to be perceived as a “work exchange”, we do provide our Karma Yogis with food (3 meals per day) and accommodation (tent or caravan). We also would love you to participate in the scheduled yoga and meditation sessions, as far as your working schedule allows (usually at least one yoga and one meditation session per day).

Please note that joining us as a volunteer includes the commitment to abstain from the use of alcohol, tobacco, cannabis and other drugs at least for the duration of your stay.

If this resonates with your heart, please contact us for further information. We are looking forward to have you join our family!
